What’s this all about?

Hi, I’m Steph. I am absolutely obsessed with beer and food.
A little background about myself… I began to delve into the craft brew world in 2005 at the tender age of 21. I tried a Dogfish Head Chicory Stout, and thought to myself, “Hey, this isn’t Keystone… I actually like this! I really, really like this!” Since then, I, along with my now-husband, Tim, have tried to find every single craft beer we can get our eager little hands on. This has involved countless trips to microbreweries, brewpubs, beer distributors, beer bars, and brew fests.
Naturally, our next thought was to start making the stuff on our own. Tim and I have now been homebrewing since July 2006. As of today, we have brewed 45 5-gallon batches. Turns out we’re pretty darn good at it. Our results have been so encouraging, that we plan to open a brewery/restaurant sometime in the next 10-15 years.
Cooking is probably the most gratifying activity in the world for me, next to brewing. I am constantly preparing new and challenging recipes, and I rarely make the same thing twice. I hope to go to culinary school in the next 5 years, to prepare for my role as president and head chef of the previously mentioned brewery/restaurant.
My plan for this blog is to write about beer, food, beer-food pairing, homebrewing, and cooking. All of my beer/food experiences are potential entries.
That’s about all you need to know for now. Welcome!

very cool! My husband has brewed beer and liked it but now his time is so limited because of work and another deployment looms in the future.

To make things a little quicker, he can always switch to kegging (I’m just assuming he bottles though). It’s a small investment to keep a great hobby alive. Although, if he’s being deployed really soon, he’ll obviously have to wait until he gets back.
You could also join in on the fun and brew with him! When my husband and I still did extract brews, we had the whole brew day process down to about 3 hours, with all other tasks (sanitizing, racking, kegging, etc.) taking about an hour total. It’s much quicker with two people!
Best of luck to you both :)
