Colorado: Day 5 – Finishing a vacation at 12,000 ft

Our last day in Colorado… Booooo. Believe it or not, we didn’t set foot in a single brewery that day! How odd!

There were no guard rails... Not sure they would have even done anything if there were.

To get here:

Aaaaaaahh, there's no air up here!

Wow. 12,000 ft! (Yeah, I know the sign says 11,990 ft, but we climbed up some stairs from that point, so we were actually well above 12,000 ft!) I couldn’t believe the wind up there, felt like we were going to get blown right off the mountain!

After Loveland Pass, we drove a little farther west towards Dillon Reservoir. We found a little pull-off near a path, so we got out of the car to explore, and came upon this:

Could Colorado get anymore beautiful? Seriously, come on! Tim took down our waypoint next to the reservoir (it’s pretty impressive if you look at it on satellite view and zoom out a little bit). Amazing.

After our little mountain expedition, we stopped at a nearby Mexican restaurant called Dos Locos in Keystone. I had some really good enchiladas and a Bloody Mary. I discovered on this trip that I absolutely love a good Bloody Mary. So much so that I started making my own.

Tomato juice, a shot of vodka (I despise vodka, but you can’t taste it anyway), celery salt, black pepper, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, and lemon and lime juice. Make sure to rim the glass with celery salt and garnish with skewered green olives (with pimentos), slices of lemon and lime, and a big ol‘ stalk of celery.

Mmm... Bloody Mary...

Doesn’t that sound revolting? I thought so too, until I tried one. It’s my new favorite mixed drink, hands down. Plus, you can gross people out while you’re drinking it. They don’t know what they’re missing!

To end off our day, we decided to drive just a little bit farther to Breckenridge, a cool ski town with a view of the mountains. Had some coffee at a little cafe, got some great discounts on ski clothes… good stuff. Drove back to Denver, packed up our suitcases, and moped around for the rest of the night. We most unwillingly flew back east the next day, after an amazing five days in Colorado.

And that’s it! We’re definitely going back again though. I most certainly have to check out the skiing in Colorado. And who knows, maybe we’ll even live there someday…

I’ll leave you with a pretty shot of an aspen. *sigh*

Goodbye Colorado, we'll miss you!
