Session #20: Beer and Moving
by Steph Weber - October 3rd, 2008Categories: Session
This month’s Session topic (hosted by my brother and soon-to-be sister-in-law at Bathtub Brewery) is Beer and Memories.
Is there a beer that reminds you of a specific memory?
Why yes, Ray and Melissa, there is. In fact, I’ve got a handful of beers in mind for this one.
In May 2007, my husband (who was actually still my boyfriend at the time) and I moved from our tiny apartment in Newark, DE to a medium-ish apartment in Malvern, PA. One of the first things we did was drive over to a nearby distributor and buy two cases of beer – one mixed-pack each of Tröegs and Weyerbacher.
For a couple of weeks, we went without furniture in the new apartment, because we weren’t able to get a U-Haul right away. So we slept on air mattresses, ate our dinner on the floor, and placed our tv on top of a few empty beer cases.
But we didn’t mind one bit. We were out of the hell hole that was Newark, DE and into a nice little townhouse with a patio, a garden, and a courtyard. Better yet, we discovered that we had moved within walking distance of The Flying Pig, a great little hole-in-the-wall saloon with 30-some-odd taps and a miles-long bottle list. Not to mention the 15-minute drive to Victory in Downingtown, PA.
Did we die and go to beer heaven?
Moving to our Malvern apartment was probably one of the most liberating experiences of our lives. And through it all, we had Tröegs and Weyerbacher a-plenty. I believe the cases contained the following:
Tröegs
Pale Ale
HopBack
Rugged Trail Ale
DreamWeaver Wheat
Weyerbacher
Hops Infusion
House Ale
Scotch Ale
Black Hole
Any time I have any one of these beers, I think about that glorious move to Malvern, and how freakin’ pumped we were to be in a new place.
Two weeks ago, we moved out of our beloved Malvern apartment and into our new house in Audubon, PA. We bought a case of Dogfish Head Punkin Ale and a mixed case of Founders. Time for some new memories!
