Follow the Liter

I’m gonna start sounding like a Victory spokesperson, but I can’t help it, they just continue to be awesome.
Victory has recently started a monthly event called “Follow the Liter.” Here’s the description from their website:
Enjoy a bit of Bavaria at Victory Brewing Company. Celebrate with $5 mas liters of Festbier and Wiesen and feast on a German themed menu including Schweinshaxe and Oktoberfest giant pretzels. Try your strength in the Strong Arm competition. Wear your authentic German attire and get a free pretzel. Follow the Liter starting at 6pm in the Beer Hall at Victory Brewing Company.
To sum it up, every third Thursday of the month, they Germanize their beer hall, sell enormous mugs of beer, and let people arm wrestle. Yeah, seriously!
Firstly, the deal on beer is really good. One liter of beer is equivalent to about two pints, or almost three regular 12 oz bottles… For 5 bucks! And it’s not just any cheap beer; it’s cheap, delicious, Victory beer. (Last night, I had the Wiesen. It’s a lighter, less malty Oktoberfest style. Very tasty.) Plus, how fun is it to drink out of a beer glass that’s bigger than your face? (See image above.)
For eats, Tim and I shared both of the German specials. The giant pretzels are indeed giant and excellently made to boot. I’m pretty sure Tim was completely in love with the Schweinshaxe, a German pork dish served with mashed potatoes and red cabbage. There was sauerkraut in the potatoes. Holy cow it was delicious!
The atmosphere for this event is perfect. They push the tables together in a big square surrounding the arm wrestling table in the center. Gives a nice feeling of comradery amongst those around you (and trust me, everyone that goes to or works at Victory is worth befriending).
To add to the German beer hall feel, all the waitresses wear authentic German attire. We even saw a few patrons wearing German garb (they got free pretzels!).
The arm wrestling is super fun, even though I lost in the first round of competition last night. (They need to organize it by weight class for us puny folks!) After the competition is over, it’s a free-for-all for whoever wants to challenge who. Our server kindly obliged when I challenged her to an arm wrestle. It was a good match, and I luckily was able to gain back a little of my pride with a win!

You can almost see my rippling biceps...
Everyone seems to have a great time at this event, and we are definitely going to continue attending (every month if we can!).
