session_logo_all_text_500This month’s Session topic (hosted by BetterBeerBlog) is “Summer Beers”:

With the summer coming to a close, what was your favorite beer of the summer?

As usual, I mostly stuck to homebrews this summer (it’s hard to resist the call of a six-tap kegerator). We’ve had a lot of different beers on tap; in fact, we’re brewing more now than we ever have before.

The one beer we made that I found myself craving over and over again was a berry wheat that we brewed a couple times. The first time around, we called it “Imperial Wildberry Wheat.” We were going for a fairly strong wheat beer, brewed with raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries. It came out pretty darn good, with a ton of tart fruit flavor.

The second time around, we called it “Sweet Melissa Wheat,” brewed especially for my almost sister-in-law’s bridal shower. This time, we lessened the alcohol and made it a little sweeter. And boy was it a hit!

Every hot, summer evening, I found myself reaching for the tap handle to get me some sweet, delicious berry wheat. It was glorious. And the great thing about it was that the keg seemed to last forever, much like the ridiculous, sham of an article at the end of this month’s BYO.

It did of course eventually kick, and I clearly remember screaming an anguished “NOOOOOOOOOO!” when it finally did. But hoooo man was it fantastic while it lasted. Mmmmmm…
