The perfect sweet pizza sauce
by Steph Weber - March 24th, 2010Categories: cook, pizza
I think I’ve finally come up with a pizza sauce that I can believe in!
This version took two tries since my last post (version 1.1). Version 1.2 was so close to what I wanted that it only needed a minor tweak — a lot more basil. So the final version (1.3) bumps up the basil from 1 tbsp to ½ cup.
So without further ado, here’s my pizza sauce recipe!
Pizza sauce version 1.awesome
28 oz can San Marzano tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp honey
½ tsp salt
½ cup fresh basil
½ tsp crushed fennel seeds
½ tsp oregano
½ tsp thyme
½ tsp garlic powder
Combine all ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth.
Note: This recipe is sweet. So if you’re into really zesty or garlicy sauce, this probably isn’t for you. Also, if you’re not into anise flavor, you might want to decrease or remove the fennel seeds.
Hope you enjoy this sweet pizza sauce!
