My brother got married this past weekend… At Stoudt’s!
That’s right, my big brother finally wrastled him a wife. And one of the best parts about the whole thing is that they both share a love of beer. So what better place to celebrate their wedding day than at a brewery?
So on Saturday, November 7th, Ray [...]

The remainder of our trip to Colorado wasn’t quite as jam-packed as our first day, so I’ll finish this little three-part series by summing up the rest.
On our second day, we visited Mount Falcon Canyon Park nearby where our friends live in Morrison.
After a nice, easy hike there, we visited One World Cafe, a cozy [...]

Now that I’ve gushed on and on about the fabulous time we had at GABF, it’s time to cover the rest of our trip out to Colorado!
Our first day was insanely busy… We landed in Denver around lunchtime, and of course we immediately wanted to go to a brewery. The first thing we did was [...]

Now that I’ve settled back into normal life (which is kind of a bummer), it’s time for me to gather my thoughts and write about my experiences at this year’s Great American Beer Festival!
It was of course amazing. I didn’t quite feel the complete shock and awe upon first walking into the festival like I [...]

So, this beer is really cool.
Dogfish Head based Theobroma on the chemical analysis of pottery fragments from Honduras… You know, typical Dogfish Head type stuff. Apparently, this analysis showed evidence of the earliest known alcoholic chocolate drink, circa 500-1200 BC, drank by early civilizations on special occasions.
Theobroma translates to “food of the gods,” which I’d [...]

Now that you’ve read my last post, you know a little bit about how sour beers are created. Now let’s talk examples. Here are my reviews of two very contrasting sour ales.
Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Ale
Monk’s Cafe is a well-known restaurant and bar in Center City Philadelphia that’s famous for its enormous selection of [...]

Dogfish Head’s Sah’tea is one of the most interesting and creative beers I’ve had to date. Someday I’d like to ask Sam Calagione how he comes up with his crazy ideas… Here’s the story behind it.
Many centuries ago, peasants in Finland brewed a fermented beverage called sahti. The ingredients included malted and unmalted barley, rye, [...]

Up until last September when we bought our house, Tim and I lived in a townhouse apartment in Malvern, PA. Malvern is located on the Main Line, a very uppity, somewhat snooty area of southeastern PA. Strangely enough, this wealthy town also happens to be the home of the most awesome hole-in-the-wall bar ever — [...]
